The role of fusion splicing in FTTP networks

What is Fusion Splicing? 

Fusion splicing is a method of joining two optical fibers end-to-end using a fusion splicing machine. The ultimate goal is to fuse two fibers together so that light passing through the fibers is not scattered or reflected back by the splice. The main question that comes up to one’s mind is why do we use splicing?

 

Fusion splicing plays a crucial role in fiber-to-the-premise (FTTP) networks by providing a reliable and efficient method for joining optical fibers. With its ability to minimize light scattering and reflections at the splice point, fusion splicing is ideal for repairing broken fiber links and creating seamless connections within data centers and LAN environments.
